Author Rights on Wonderful Books: What You Own and What We Handle (Kenyan Edition)
Published 16 July 2026 by Wonderful Books Editorial
Wonderful Books offers a non-exclusive licensing model that lets you retain full copyright and publish everywhere else. Here's what you own, what we handle, and how your rights stay protected.
Your Copyright, Your Control
As a Kenyan author, your creative work is your intellectual property—and it should stay that way. At Wonderful Books, we believe in giving you the power to decide where your book lives, how it's priced, and who gets to read it. That's why we operate on a simple, transparent principle: you own your copyright entirely. We never ask for an assignment or transfer of your rights. Instead, we offer a non-exclusive license that allows you to publish your book on our platform while keeping full ownership. You can simultaneously sell your book on other digital stores, in physical bookshops, or through your own website. No lock-in, no hidden clauses. Just you in control.
What the Non-Exclusive License Means for You
The non-exclusive license is the heart of our partnership. When you upload your manuscript to Wonderful Books, you grant us permission to host, distribute, and promote your work on our platform. That's it. You can still sell the same book on Amazon, through your local M-Pesa-powered website, or at a book launch in Nairobi's Kencom House. You can even license it to a publisher in Mombasa or Kisumu. The license is non-exclusive, meaning we are just one of many possible channels for your work. This is especially useful for Kenyan authors who want to reach readers across the country without giving up the ability to sell directly or through other partners.
Withdrawal Rights: You Can Leave Anytime
What happens if you decide to take your book off Wonderful Books? You have the right to withdraw your content at any time. Simply send us a request through your author dashboard or email us, and we will remove your book from our platform within a reasonable timeframe (typically 5-7 business days). There are no penalties, no fees, and no complicated paperwork. We do ask that you honour any ongoing promotions or pre-orders already in place, but after that, your book is free to go. This flexibilit
